Wauseon Character Academy
Building Character through Bible Education

Wauseon Character Academy is building a partnership with LifeWise Academy to bring character education to students in the Wauseon Ohio School District, using Bible story heroes and their positive influence as role models.  We endeavor to acquire property and provide a facility to bring our students to one centralized location for their weekly LifeWise instruction.

Who We Are

Wauseon Character Academy is a nonprofit faith organization dedicated to providing character education to students through Bible story characters. Our immediate goal is to build or acquire a centralized location to fully service the facility needs for our rapidly growing LifeWise Academy program in Wauseon.  Our overall goal is to help students develop strong values and become positive members of their communities.

Wauseon Character Academy works in partnership with LifeWise Academy, a nonprofit ministry program, that provides religious education for public school students during school hours.  LifeWise Academy funds the teachers, curriculum, and bus drivers, then transports students from their school to a nearby location to provide a weekly Bible education class before returning them to their school.  The purpose is to expose children to Jesus, the Bible as the word of God, and the development of character traits that will positively impact each student's life.

Our Program

We wish to serve Grades 1 - 5 students who attend either Wauseon Primary or Wauseon Elementary School.  Our curriculum is from LifeWise Academy, which has developed age-appropriate lessons modeled after the curriculum of The Gospel Project, a faith-based organization whose mission is to make the Gospel of Christ known to all.  Our purpose is to teach the values and positive traits found in the character of Jesus and other heroes in the Bible.  Knowing how Jesus and these characters from the Bible stories lived their lives will help our students live their lives as well.

Bible Story Characters

Our lessons are centered around Jesus and other Bible story characters, who serve as role models for students and help them understand the importance of positive character traits and strong values.  Our goal is that each student will be positively influenced and begin to incorporate these traits and values into his or her life.

Community Partnerships

We partner with local individuals, churches,  and organizations to provide funding to underwrite the cost of our facilities. We can then implement the program to bring students the opportunity to learn about Jesus and various Bible Heroes, develop standards to live by, and to eventually serve their communities and put their values into action.

Legality of Program

Around the time that the Bible and prayer were removed from public education, the U.S. Supreme Court ruling in Zorach v. Clauson determined that the practice of "Released Time Religious Instruction" (RTRI) was constitutional and legal is all 50 states of our country.  Ohio's RTRI law was passed by the Ohio legislature and signed into law by the governor, allowing public school students to receive religious instruction during the school day, as long as it was voluntary, off school property, and privately funded.

Our curriculum is designed to help students develop strong values and become positive members of their communities. We use Bible story characters to teach important lessons about values and positive character traits.  Our curriculum is from LifeWise Academy, which has developed age-appropriate lessons modeled after the curriculum of The Gospel Project, a faith-based organization whose mission is to make the Gospel of Christ known to all.  Another purpose is to teach students the value of caring for and giving service to others.  Students readily relate to the characters found in the Bible stories and how the characters from the stories lived their lives.
